D-Fenders Capture Win In First Meeting With Windy City

Summary
Down by five with six minutes remaining, the D-Fenders went on one of their trademark, game-ending tears. Los Angeles finished the game with a 25-16 run to roll past the Windy City Bulls, 115-111, as Julian Jacobs led this final charge with seven points and a pair of assists.

Player of the Game
David Nwaba: A frontrunner for D-League Defensive Player of the Year, Nwaba got it done on both sides of the floor. He scored 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting while also collecting seven rebounds, two steals and three blocks. The Cal Poly product came up big at the end, forcing a turnover with 4.2 seconds left when Windy City needed only two points to tie.

Prospect Watch
Vander Blue (1): It was another fiery performance for the D-League’s third-leading scorer, who put up 27 points by constantly attacking the paint. He was also there when his team needed a bucket down the stretch, scoring seven points in the final 100 seconds.

Josh Magette (16):
A quiet night for the D-League’s assists leader was nonetheless a productive one that saw him nearly notch a double-double. Magette scored 10 points while dishing out nine assists along the way.

Key Stat
22: Turnovers committed by Windy City — which were 14 more than the D-Fenders. L.A. stayed extremely active on that end of the floor, as Jacobs led the way with three steals while Nwaba, Blue, Magette and DeJuan Blair each had two apiece.

Looking Ahead
The D-Fenders will now head to the desert for a meeting with the Northern Arizona Suns at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The Suns are led by 12th-ranked prospect Elijah Millsap and also boast the services of Derrick Jones Jr., who finished second at the NBA Slam Dunk Contest last week.
