Magette’s Triple-Double Comes In Loss to Warriors

By Joey Ramirez | March 26, 2017

Summary
A colossal individual performance wasn’t enough to carry the D-Fenders’ entire team, as Josh Magette collected his second career triple-double in a 132-124 loss to Santa Cruz. The Warriors pulled away with a 28-19 third quarter, and a hot fourth from Magette wasn’t enough to bring Los Angeles back.

D-Fender of the Game
Josh Magette: The All-Star finished the night with 25 points, 10 rebounds and 15 assists to become the first D-Fender with a triple-double this season. He was excellent all night long, but particularly lethal while trying to rally his team late. Magette scored 11 points in the fourth quarter alone, though L.A. still fell by 10.

Prospect Watch
Vander Blue (2):
After dealing with an illness for the past week, Blue struggled through an uncharacteristically cold performance, as he shot just 5-of-20 from the field to finish with 15 points. He did, however, collect nine rebounds despite never finding his shooting rhythm.

Justin Harper (22):
The small-ball center heated up in the second quarter, scoring a dozen points to help the D-Fenders tie the game at halftime. However, he was quieter through the rest of the night, finishing with 17 points.

Key Stat
32: Points scored by the Warriors’ duo of Jabari Brown and Phil Pressey. Brown — who played for the D-Fenders the past two season — torched his former teammates by hitting five 3-pointers off the bench while shooting 13-of-14 on free throws. Meanwhile, Pressey also handed out eight assists while collecting four steals.

Looking Ahead
The D-Fenders will head back onto the road for visits to Reno and Santa Cruz this week. Then, on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., they will return to El Segundo for the regular-season finale against the Salt Lake City Stars.
